After a number of visits and lots of chats, we were disappointed to learn that filmmakers David Lowery and Toby Halbrooks were not going to film their entire movie in Bosque County, using the Wallace family farm as a hub. AIN’T THEM BODIES SAINTS ended up being filmed primarily in Louisiana. The financial incentives were just too strong not to go there. However, the story was set in Bosque County and the Wallace family farm was a key player for creating the look.

The first six shots used in the original trailer for the movie were all shot on J Matt Wallace’s family farm. Valley View Farm was established in 1893 by George Knudson, J Matt Wallace’s great-great grandfather. The fields of grass, grove of trees, the red barn with goats, “the mountain” and the Mustang Community’s abandoned creamery were all woven into the movie to establish an authentic feel for Bosque County.

The Wallace family was pleased to host the crew and bonafide movie stars, Rooney Mara and Casey Affleck. Also, the Director of Photography for the film was Bradford Young. The feature was shot on film and won a number of awards for how beautifully it was shot.

It was a great opportunity to be part of a project that would be a key part of so many people’s journey. David, Toby and crew would return years later to film at the farm again in 2016.
